I saw that film. Quite interesting, albeit with an underwhelming (to me) conclusion.
The last film I saw that I would rate really highly is To the Wonder. I thought it was a real masterpiece. In a world where most films are, still, after a hundred years, essentially theatre plays adopted for the cinema — granted, with innovations such as the use of pop music and product placement — how blessed we are to have Terrence Malick.

You're right, the conclusion to Captain Fantastic did not redeem the philosophy of the father's beliefs, which was a little disappointing. I really liked the overall theme of the film though.
I'm not a big Terence Malick fan. Nothing against him, I just can't get past his style.
As for the Planet of the Apes movies, I enjoy them as pure entertainment. They don't seem particularly deep philosophically or politically, although I do appreciate the allegory of apes representing the primitive savages fighting against the civilized technological humans.

I was a big fan of Soviet and Czechoslovakian film for a couple years, tracking down every one with English subs on Youtube. It was a sort of independent study of state communist culture when I was still remotely leftist. Though I no longer have the persistence to research this topic continually and watch often-bad films, I'm still excited by new discoveries; right now I'm watching an adaptation of a Strugatskiy brothers book (they wrote the book on which Tarkosky's STALKER was based) that is also the most expensive Russian film ever made.
One of my favs was the bizarre and hilarious Kin-Dza-Dza, which has somehow persisted for years on YT (now, in two parts) though Mosfilm Studios has now monetized a lot of its films. It's a very playful sci-fi that does have a little anti-civ twist, in that it takes part on a desert planet that is rather post-civ and certainly post-water. There's also some critique of social hierarchies in there, unsurprisingly. Writing about it makes me want to see it again; that was years ago. "Koo!" still cracks me up.

Just watched: The Young Karl Marx
http://www.primewire.ag/watch-2801967-Th...nline-free
I was prepared for something awful and boring, but it's actually not bad. The film covers Marx's life from the time he meets Engels until their joint publication of The Communist Manifesto. It also shows Marx meeting Stirner, Bakunin, Wilhelm Weitling, and Proudhon.
I'm not a Marxist and I've never seen any movie about Marx before (I don't even know if there are any others), but I found the film interesting, and it felt fairly authentic. It's in German with English subtitles.

I liked it too Odin. I liked the meeting of Marx and Engels and of Engels and his Mrs. Some parts were a little contrived I think like the scene where Marx heckles Proudhon and when Marx, Engels, Jenny and Mary are on the beach in Belgium but these could be true.
I really appreciated the beginning focusing on Marx's first political document about the "theft" of firewood by German workers and the state's reaction to this theft.

Just watched: The 12th Man.
https://openload.co/f/lqqSe_zShMA/The_12...c3-evo.mp4
A WW II thriller survival adventure, based on a true story about a group of 12 Norwegian saboteurs on a mission against the Nazis in Norway. The mission goes horribly wrong, and all are captured except for one. The rest of the movie is about how the 12th man eludes the Germans. There is a scene near the end where some Saami reindeer herders use their reindeer to help out with some good old fashioned anti-civ ingenuity.
A little uneven at times, with some cliche dialogue here and there, but otherwise a very good movie.

Jungle Child, available on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4UWb55KX9s
Not the best quality, but watchable. It's in German, but I think there's a youtube version with English subtitles somewhere (though not sure how good the subtitles are)
The DVD/Blu-ray is available, but not with English subtitles. If anyone knows where to get a copy of this movie with English subtitles, please let me know.

I'm a big film buff also. I have many I could list but I'll just go with for now, it's called The Cruise. It's a documentary film about a tour guide named Timothy Levitch from NY and it's a glimpse of his life working on greyhound buses. He has a poetic rant about "civilization" that I really loved and that help me devolve my critique of it. For anyone who interested its a short clip https://youtu.be/Rp7TKmAyVck
