I don't think civilisation as a "force" makes any sense. Civilisation is a form of social relations that is a result of our everyday activity. The daily life of the civilised reproduces civilisation—if you'll permit my paraphrasing Fredy Perlman. A force is, like the video author seems to be indicating, something outward that we can't necessarily do anything about. But civilisation is entirely something we can do anything about—or, rather, something we can stop doing.
