What do people make of this?

Personally I think it has merit in trying to solve the problem of energy return on investment for founding farmers. The earliest farmers would have had little incentive to put effort into farming cereals had there not been some return mechanism. Is this the initial disintegration of the communal sharing ethos of earlier hunter-gatherers?
Thanks for the link. Interesting read.

I liked their model of co-evolution of tech and institutions. It would be very interesting to see it applied to things like "intellectual property" and the digital era, like they suggest themselves. It would also be useful to apply it to the origins of private property itself.
