Half of all wild animals since 1900 have been wiped out. IGD laments the naïvety of scientists pointing to overpopulation, and -- sagely, no doubt, by their estimation -- identify the real cause: capitalism. IGD are no less naïve than the scientists they are criticising. If anything, the scientists are closer to the mark.

This is just the typical shallow leftist analysis.

Well, there is a kernel of truth involved. The increase in CO2 shows an historic upward turning point beginning around the time of the industrial revolution 200 years ago. The industrial revolution was a capitalist venture, which, as we know spread throughout the Western world, and eventually to everywhere else, including socialist countries.

The problem for IGD (Dragonfly Climate Collective) is that within two centuries of the original capitalist industrial revolution, the few existing socialist countries (Soviet Union, China, Vietnam, Cuba, etc) had themselves also whole-heartedly adopted industrial mechanization as well. Lenin started the process, and Stalin sped up the process. The Soviet Union didn't want to be 'left behind' by the West, and couldn't industrialize fast enough. Mao took a while longer because China was more isolated economically.

IGD seem to forget that Marx was a great admirer of industrialization and its efficiency. He just wanted to see the wealth generated by it to be spread more equitably. Marxism (and most brands of socialism) has always been about harnessing the productive forces of technology.

Hammer and sickle anarchists like IGD like to gloss over these facts.
